Yosuke Ideguchi reveals Celtic moniker as he admits Kyogo Furuhashi set the bar for new hires
January rookie Yosuke Ideguchi has told Celtic fans and teammates he wants to be known as “Guchi” after arriving at Lennoxtown.
The 25-year-old joined the club from Gamba Osaka on a four-and-a-half-year contract and arrived in Scotland following Hogmanay’s revelation.
The Japan international will wear the number 21, and although he can say his first name on the back, he told the club website he wants to be known by another name.
On the road, he said: “When I was in Japan I watched his team and I was interested in the style, so I’m delighted to be able to join his team.
“I spoke to the manager and he told me he was looking for me to bring my style of play to the team.
“It definitely helps me join Celtic to have Daizen and Reo here well, and I hope to contribute to the team with them.”
Ange Postecoglou knows the J-League well and recruited Kyogo from Vissel Kobe this summer.
He’s already been a smash hit with 16 goals already, so ‘Guchi’ knows there is plenty to do for himself and his fellow Japanese stars Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda.
Ideguchi added, “Kyogo already contributes to the team, so like Kyogo, I want to be able to contribute to the team, even though our playing styles are different.
“The way Kyogo plays is already big news in Japan. I respect him and I can’t wait to play with him, with my other teammates.
